You wouldn’t know it from how much we talk about cookies, but Birchbox staffers are a pretty healthy bunch. We love our veggies and mind-clearing workouts, and are always up to try the latest fitness class or nutrition bar. Which is why we have new regular column: Well-Balanced. It all started when Katia got a Nike FuelBand and would randomly do jumping jacks in the office to hit her points goal. Then, Hayley showed up wearing a Jawbone UP, and suddenly she was showing off her sleep cycles and daily steps. Color me fitness-band envious! After reading a few head-to-head reviews, I decided to canvas fans on both sides and try one out for myself.
Our favorite item in Mr. Natty’s tool kit—apart from his Union Jack barber cape—has got to be these WWI-era mechanical hand clippers. They’re self-sharpening, environmentally friendly, and just plain awesome.

Google’s Chrome Experiments have long provided users with in-browser distractions that simultaneously show off the power of HTML 5, Javascript, and other open web technologies, but a new one that arrived today is definitely one of our favorites. “Explore the Galaxy” lets you zoom all the way in on the Sun and a number of other nearby stars and then click, drag, and scroll your way across the entire Milky Way galaxy. It’s a visual treat that really drives home the vastness of outer space that simultaneously fills your brain with knowledge — clicking on the 87 stars closest to Earth will pull up quick Wikipedia-sourced descriptions for each.
